1st CamTESOLConference on English Language Teaching
“Practical Issues in Teaching”
Phnom Penh, Cambodia,

Brief Overview
The 1st CamTESOL conference was held at two venues - the Institute of Foreign Languages (IFL) at the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP) on the first day, and at the Hotel Inter-Continental on the second day. The conference was two half days.
The conference was co-opened by the Senior Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sport (MoEYS), HE
Dr Kol Pheng, and by the Australian Ambassador, HE Ms Lisa Filipetto.
Registration for the conference totalled 730. Of these, 667 registered for the full two days of the conference. Of total registrations, 572 were Cambodians. 61 participants came from foreign countries specifically for the event. There were 110 provincial teachers at the conference,
81 of whom were Government high school teachers sponsored by a range of donors and corporate sponsors.
The conference had a total of 50 presentations including papers, workshops and demonstration lessons. There were three plenary speakers. The keynote address was delivered by
Ms Kate McPherson. The two featured speakers were
Professor David Nunan and Mr Richard Boyum.
