4th CamTESOL Conference on English Language Teaching
"Building Bridges to the World"
Phnom Penh, Cambodia, 23-24 February 2008

Brief Overview

 

The 4th CamTESOL conference was held at the National Institute of Education (NIE).  The conference was all day on Saturday 23 February and the morning only of Sunday 24 February.

The conference was co-opened by the Senior Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sport (MoEYS), HE Dr Kol Pheng, by the US and Australian Ambassadors to the Kingdom of Cambodia and by the Director of the National Institute of Education.

Registration for the conference totalled 1 047, of whom 1 011 registered for and attended on both days of the conference.  Of total registrations, 685 were Cambodians.  213 participants came from foreign countries specifically for the event.  There were 179 provincial teachers at the conference, 127 of whom were Government high school teachers sponsored by a range of donors, notably by the US State Department.

Features of the conference included:

  • Educational Site Visits (morning of 22 February)
  • A Regional ELT Leadership Forum (afternoon of 22 February)
  • An Orientation Program for teachers from the provinces (afternoon of 22 February)
  • A Presenters’ Warm Up function (evening of 22 February)
  • The Conference Dinner (evening of 23 February)

The conference had a total of 170 presentations including papers, workshops and posters.  The two plenary speakers were Professor David Nunan and Professor Alan Maley.
