CamTESOL
Conference on English Language Teaching
Selected
Papers
Background Information
An editorial board has been established and the members
of this board have been blind-reviewing papers that were submitted
from the first four conferences. Each paper must be blind-reviewed by
two editors and accepted by both before final editing and publication.
Publication will proceed with one volume for each of the past years' conferences. Initially, publication
will be online and on CD and documentation will be mounted on this website
for public viewing.
From 2008, selected papers from each conference
will be published on an annual basis.

Paper / Abstract Topics
Participants at CamTESOL
2009 will be comprised of local Cambodian and expatriate educators as
well as those from international institutions. Abstracts which present
innovative approaches in the conference streams and which would be of
interest to both local and international conference participants are encouraged.
When preparing their presentations, presenters should consider the context
of Cambodian TESOL where most schools have limited resources and teachers
often have to contend with large numbers of students in their classrooms.
As a result, the CamTESOL Program Committee, when selecting abstracts
for the conference, takes into account the local context as well as the
areas of interest for international participants. Within the conference
streams, successful proposals may consider both the interests of the international
participants and the local needs of the Cambodian participants. Some successful
presentations may include:
Developing supplementary
materials, having students develop course materials, implementing integrated
approaches in curriculum, adapting teaching materials / texts to the
local context, teaching students with limited resources, how to utilise
authentic materials at all levels (curriculum and materials development):
Professional report writing, English for tourism (EAP and ESP);
How to increase learner autonomy (independent learning);
Teaching grammar communicatively, teaching mixed level classes (methodology);
Using short stories to motivate learners (motivation);
Teacher awareness of student attitudes (professional development);
Effective management skills, how to manage special programs, developing
a successful adult ESP program (program / school management);
Innovative strategies for teaching reading / speaking / writing, teaching
speaking with task based approaches, encouraging communication in large
classes (teaching reading / speaking / writing);
Non-traditional forms of assessment and testing, response analysis
and reliability (testing); and
Using cartoons and posters to teach young learners (teaching young
learners).
Deadline for abstract of papers, workshops or poster sessions was 26 October, 2007. Abstracts were selected and approved by the CamTESOL Program Committee, and presenters have been informed of acceptance to present at the conference.
Selection of papers
Full papers are required by 21 February 2009. One electronic and one printed copy of the paper should be submitted to the
Conference Program Committee (point of contact is Mr. Koun Chamroeun: chamroeun_k99@yahoo.com) by the time of the Conference. The electronic copy should be in Microsoft Word or
Rich Text Format and may be submitted by e-mail prior to the Conference (Richmond Stroupe at camtesol.selected.papers@gmail.com), or it may be presented on CD upon
registration for the Conference in Phnom Penh.
Papers should not exceed 5,000 words, including references, but not including abstracts or appendices. Papers should be preceded by an abstract of 150 words or less. The abstract should summarise the methodology and major claims or conclusions of the paper.
